So Pineau De Re has won the Grand National at Aintree. You can of course drink Pineau in the garden of our St Martin de Ré holiday home on the Ile de Ré.
Officially it is called Pineau des Charentes or often simply Pineau. Many of the grapes harvested on the island are turned into Pineau. The local co-operative makes vats of the stuff over in Bois Plage.
Pineau is a kind of fortified wine. The magic addition being some of the local cognac or eau de vie. I always find the red goes down better than the white and while there are no race winning horses nearby. you can hear the donkeys down the road while you enjoy your drink.
